Do this in remembrance of Me - Luke 22:19.
The Lord's supper is instituted by Jesus during the Last Supper where Jesus ate with His disciples before His betrayal and arrest. And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you" - Luke 22:19,20.
Remembrance
The Lord’s Supper is a time to remember that Jesus gave Himself for us on the cross. We eat the bread in remembrance of His body and drink the cup in remembrance of His blood.
When He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” - 1 Corinthians 11:24, 25.
Proclamation
We proclaim the Lord's death till He comes as we eat this bread and drink this cup.
For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes - 1 Corinthians 11:26.
Fellowship
It is a holy communion, to have a fellowship with each other.
For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread - 1 Corinthians 10:7.
Self-examination
We need to self examine ourselves prior to partaking of the Lord’s supper.
But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep - 1 Corinthians 11:28-30.
Thanksgiving
The Lord’s Supper is a time for remembering and offering thanks for God’s great Sacrifice for us.
When He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” - 1 Corinthians 11:24.
Expectation
When we observe the Lord’s Supper, we look forward to a living Savior’s return.
For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes - 1 Corinthians 11:26.
Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb! - Revelation 19:9.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, We thank You for Your body that is broken for us and for Your precious blood that is shed for us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
