The More They Afflicted Them, The More They Multiplied And Grew

But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew - Exodus 1:12.

The land of Egypt was filled with Israelites as they were fruitful, increased abundantly, multiplied and grew exceedingly mighty. The children of Israel were fruitful and increased abundantly, multiplied and grew exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them. Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. And he said to his people, “Look, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we - Exodus 7:7-9.

So, the Israelites were oppressed by the Egyptians and their lives were made bitter. So they put slave masters over them to oppress them with forced labor, and they built Pithom and Rameses as store cities for Pharaoh. They made their lives bitter with harsh labor in brick and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked them ruthlessly - Exodus 1:11,14.

Israelites, in the midst of their slavery not only multiplied in their affliction but also continued to grow very mighty. God made a way for them to multiply as the midwives who feared God saved the male children alive. But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive. Therefore God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied and grew very mighty - Exodus 1:17, 20. He increased His people greatly, And made them stronger than their enemies - Psalm 105:24.

The more Pharaoh and the Egyptians afflicted Israelites, the more they multiplied and spread.  God fulfilled His promise of blessing and multiplying them. Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be - Genesis 15:5. We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed - 2 Corinthians 4:8.

The more we are afflicted, the more we will multiply and grow as God will provide a way for us to increase and fulfill His promise. For I will look on you favorably and make you fruitful, multiply you and confirm My covenant with you - Leviticus 26:9. For you shall expand to the right and to the left, And your descendants will inherit the nations, And make the desolate cities inhabited - Isaiah 54:3.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, We thank You for blessing us and helping us to multiply and grow in midst of afflictions. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
