Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it" - Matthew 16:24,25.
We are called to follow Christ and His foot steps as we are His disciples. God wants us to do what He would do if He was in our place. For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps - 1 Peter 2:21. When Jesus was in the world, He did not please Himself but He pleased the Father who sent Him. By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me - John 5:30.
As
a soldier aims to please the officer who enlisted him, let us please God. You
therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one
engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may
please him who enlisted him as a soldier - 2 Timothy 2:3, 4. An athlete is not crowned unless he competes
according to the rules. And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not
crowned unless he competes according to the rules - 2 Timothy 2:5.
With God’s strength, let us follow Christ and please Him. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me - 2 Corinthians 12:9. His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness - 2 Peter 1:3.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Let us
follow Your ways and please You in all we do as Your disciples. In Jesus’ name
we pray. Amen.
