Moses built an altar and called it The LORD is my Banner - Exodus 17:15.
The Amalekites attacked Israelites in Rephidim and so Moses told Joshua to fight with them. So Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill - Exodus 17:8-10. As long as Moses kept his arms raised, the Israelites were winning and whenever his arms are lowered, the Amalekites are winning. And so it was, when Moses held up his hands, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed - Exodus 17: 11.
Aaron and Hur put a rock under Moses to sit on and stood on either side of him holding up his arms. Aaron and Hur held his hands up - one on one side, one on the other - so that his hands remained steady till sunset. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword - Exodus 17:12, 13. The Israelites defeated the Amalekites and so Moses built an altar to the Lord and called it, “The LORD is my Banner” (Exodus 17:15).
Let us thank the Lord our banner, Jehovah Nissi who gives us victory in all our battles. For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory - Deuteronomy 20:4. For by You I can run against a troop, By my God I can leap over a wall - Psalm 18:29. When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him - Isaiah 59:19.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, You are Jehovah Nissi, our banner. We thank You for giving us victory in all our battles. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
