A Woman of Faith:Jochebed

Walk by faith, not by sight - 2 Corinthians 5:7.

Jochebed was a godly mother who saved the life of her son Moses by faith. She was an Israelite and also a member of the tribe of Levi. The name of Amram’s wife was Jochebed the daughter of Levi, who was born to Levi in Egypt; and to Amram she bore Aaron and Moses and their sister Miriam - Numbers 26:59. Moses was born during difficult times when Pharaoh commanded every son to be cast into the river. So Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, “Every son who is born you shall cast into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive" - Exodus 1:22. But Jochebed was not afraid of the king’s command as she trusted God.  We ought to obey God rather than men - Acts 5:29b. The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe - Proverbs 29:25.

By faith, Jochebed hid Moses three months and then took an ark of bulrushes for him, daubed it with asphalt and pitch, put him in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank. By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s command - Hebrews 11:23. And a man of the house of Levi went and took as wife a daughter of Levi. So the woman conceived and bore a son. And when she saw that he was a beautiful child, she hid him three months. But when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of bulrushes for him, daubed it with asphalt and pitch, put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank - Exodus 2:1-3.

Jochebed prepared Moses for the calling of God to lead Israelites out of Egyptian bondage. Her  example of faith turned Moses into a man of faith and he grew up knowing God. He became a great man of God and delivered Israelites from Egypt and fulfilled God's purpose. By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward. By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible - Hebrews 11:24-27.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen - Hebrews 11:1.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, Let us walk by faith and not by sight. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
