And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them - Luke 2:9.
Mary
The angel of the Lord appeared to Mary and revealed God’s plan to her about the birth of Jesus. God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth to a virgin called Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God." And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus - Luke 1:29-31 .
Mary's response
Mary submitted herself to the will of God and praised God. Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her - Luke 1:38. My soul magnifies the Lord, And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior - Luke 1:46.
Joseph
The angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and told him not to be afraid to take her as wife. But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit” - Mathew 1:20.
Joseph's response
Joseph did as the angel of the Lord commanded him Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus - Mathew 1:24,25.
Shepherds
The shepherds were first announced by the angel of the Lord that Jesus was born. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger". And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” - Luke 2:10-14.
Shepherds' response
The shepherds saw Jesus and returned glorifying and praising God. They also spread the word about Jesus to others. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them - Luke 2:17,18. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them - Luke 2:20.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Help us to obey to Your Word and walk in your ways. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
