Take off your old self
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator - Colossians 3:5-10.
Put on the new self
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. So Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites, and the children of Israel cried out to the Lord - Judges 6:5, 6.
God answered by sending Gideon to save Israelites
God told Gideon to go in the strength which he has to save Israel out of Midian’s hand. The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” And the Lord said to him, “Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat the Midianites as one man” - Judges 6:14,16. So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it - Isaiah 55:11.
God's Word is so powerful that it will not return empty but will accomplish and achieve the purpose for which it is sent. It is living, active and sharper than any two-edged sword. For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart - Hebrews 4:12.
The Centurion believed that the word of God is very powerful and so he told Jesus to just say the word for his servant to be healed. The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith - Matthew 8:8-10.
Let us believe the power of God's Word that is living, active and sharper than any two-edged sword like the Centurion. Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Jesus replied, 'Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.'"- Matthew 21:21.
We will have whatever we say if we do not have doubt in our heart but believe. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says - Mark 11:23. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith - Matthew 21:22.
Peter was afraid and began to sink when he saw the wind as he had no faith and doubted even though God was with him. So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased - Matthew 14:29-31.
Let us have faith and do not doubt in our heart in any situation as God is always with us. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind - James 1:6. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you - Matthew 17:20. For we walk by faith, not by sight - 2 Corinthians 5:7.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Help us to have faith and do not doubt in any situation as You are always with us. Let us walk by faith, not by sight. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you - Isaiah 46:4.
Like a father
Then I said to you, “Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of them. The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, and in the wilderness. There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.” - Deuteronomy 1:29-31.
