Set A Guard, O Lord, Over My Mouth

Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips - Psalm 141:3.

We need to speak slowly as we have to give account of every idle word we speak in the day of judgment. Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry - James 1:19. He who has knowledge spares his words, And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit - Proverbs 17:27. But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment - Matthew 12:36.

Speaking pleasant, wise, kind and gracious words builds others and gives grace to others. The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious - Ecclesiastes 10:12. Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones - Proverbs 16:24. Find opportunities to speak kind and tenderhearted words - Ephesians 4:32. Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers -  Ephesians 4:29. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone - Colossians 4:6.

Let our mouth be always filled with praises and thanksgiving. My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord - Psalm 145:21. I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalm 34:1. Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ - Ephesians 5:19,20.

Let us preserve our life by guarding our mouth. Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles - Proverbs 21:23. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21. Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues - Proverbs 17:28. He who guards his mouth preserves his life, But he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction - Proverbs 13:3.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, Set a guard, O Lord, over our mouth and keep watch over the door of our lips. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
