It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn Your statutes - Psalm 119:71.
It is good that we are afflicted because it lead us to learn and follow God's statutes and commands. Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word - Psalm 119:67. We need to rejoice when afflicted as afflictions are light and temporary and it is for good. It also shapes our character and we may be able to comfort those who are in any afflictions.
Light affliction, temporary
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal - 2 Corinthians 4:17-18.
All things work together for good
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose - Romans 8:28.
Produces perseverance, character, hope
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything - James 1:2-4. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope - Romans 5:3-4.
We may be able to comfort those who are in any afflictions
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God - 2 Corinthians 1:3-4.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, It is good for us that we are afflicted as we learn Your statutes and keep Your Word. We thank You for comforting us in all our afflictions. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
