Bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if
anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must
do. Colossians 3:13.
God wants us to show forgiveness
to others. If we do not forgive others, Satan will get a foothold in our life
and we cannot have fellowship with God. As peace is a fruit of the spirit, we
should always pursue peace with others. Forgiving others releases us from anger
and resentment and brings healing to our body.
Joseph forgave his brothers even though they plotted to kill him. Stephen when being stoned by people for sharing the gospel, he begged God to forgive his
attackers. Jesus Christ interceded to father for all those who tormented Him on the cross to forgive them. As God has forgiven us all our sins, we
should also forgive others.
In the Lord’s prayer we say that “Forgive us
our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us”. We can experience
God’s forgiveness in our life as we forgive others who sinned against us. When
we choose to forgive others, we will be set free from bitterness and the power
of unforgiveness that are holding our lives.
It is not easy to forgive
others when they hurt us so deeply. Whenever
you begin to think of persons who hurt, think of anything that is good about them. With God’s help, we can surely forgive them. 2 Corinthians
12:9 says that, “My grace is sufficient for you. My power is made perfect in weakness”.
Forgiveness is possible through the power of God.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Grant us the spirit of forgiveness and
help us to bless those who hurt us. Let us bear with one another and forgive others wholeheartedly just as you have forgiven us. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
