The Samaritan Woman

Jesus answered and said to her, Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. John 4:13, 14

Jesus meets the Samaritan woman
When Jesus was going from Judea to Galilee, he went through Samaria. As He was tired, He sat by Jacob’s well in Samaria and a Samaritan woman came to the well to draw water. Though Jews have no dealings with Samaritans, Jesus started a conversation with her. He began by asking her for a drink. When she questioned why He is talking with her as He is a Jew, Jesus told her that He shall give her the living water and whoever drinks it shall never thirst..

Jesus revealed Himself to her
Jesus also claimed that He is the Messiah when she said that Messiah would declare all things to them. The Samaritan woman at the well had a personal encounter with Jesus. She immediately believed Jesus and ran to the town leaving behind her water pot to tell about Jesus. As she had found the living water, she was not interested in the well water. The decision of Jesus going through Samaria resulted in the transformation of a woman who had lost all her hope in life.

The Samaritan Woman spreading the gospel
In the gospel of John, the Samaritan woman became the first evangelist for Christ. John 4 :28, 29 says that the woman then left her water pot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?”. She boldly proclaimed to people in Samaria that Jesus is the Messiah. Many Samaritans believed Jesus through the testimony of her. Let us also share our experiences of God and pass the living water to the thirsty people. And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? - Romans 10:14.

PRAYER: Dear God, Help us to share the gospel with others as fast as we can like the Samaritan woman. Let us reach the unreached people and win many souls for you. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
