You shall
receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. Acts 1:8.
Simon Peter also known as Cephas meaning
stone or rock was the very first disciple called by Jesus along with his
brother Andrew. He left his career as a fisherman and followed Jesus to be a
fisher of men. Peter was the first to call Jesus the son of living God, the
Messiah. He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”. Simon Peter answered
and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” – Mathew 16:15,16.
Peter was the first to leave the boat to walk on
the water to Jesus. Though Peter denied the Lord 3 times, he repented soon. After
receiving the Holy spirit, Peter was a changed man. On the day of Pentecost, Peter stood up first and preached the sermon boldly. He was the first leader of early churches. Peter was the first to take
the gospel to the Gentiles (Acts 10). Peter was also the
first to initiate the plan for choosing a replacement for Judas ( Acts 1:15).
Peter was mightily used
by God. People brought sick to the streets that at least the shadow of Peter
passing by might overshadow them (Acts 5:14-16). In the first 12 chapters of
the book of Acts, we see fully about Peter’s ministry. Peter also wrote the two epistles, I Peter and
II Peter. Let us receive power by the Holy Spirit and be the first to do great
things for God like Peter.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Help us to receive power
by Your Holy Spirit to be mightily used by You. Let us always be first like
Peter to spread the gospel around the world. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
