When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child - Luke 2:17.
Announcement about the birth of Christ
The shepherds were the first to receive the announcement about the birth of Christ from the angel of the Lord. Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord - Luke 2:8-11.
They immediately hurried off
The shepherds hurried off to see Jesus as soon as they heard about the birth of Christ. When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger - Luke 2:15,16.
They spread the word & all who heard were amazed
The shepherds spread the good news about the birth of Jesus and all who heard it were amazed. All who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them - Luke 2:18. They returned praising and glorifying God. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them - Luke 2:20. Let us also go and spread the gospel to all the people. Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation - Mark 16:15.
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me, To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound - Isaiah 61:1.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Help us to go and spread the good news to others. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Amen.
