The Beatitudes

And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them - Matthew 5:1,2.

The Sermon on the Mount begins with the Beatitudes in which Jesus talked about the blessings for those who are poor in spirit, mournful, meek, hungry and thirsty for righteousness, merciful, pure in heart, peacemakers, and persecuted for righteousness' sake.

Matthew 5:3-12

Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, Let us be a blessing to others. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Draw Near To God And He will Draw Near To You

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you - James 4:8.

Draw near to God

God is able to save all those who draw near to Him. He is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them - Hebrews 7:25. Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest - Matthew 11:28. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need - Hebrews 4:16.

He will draw near to you

God will draw near to us as we draw near to Him. The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth - Psalm 145:18. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit - Psalm 34:18. The Lord is near to everyone who prays to him, to every faithful person who prays to him - Psalm 145:8.

With a true heart

God will draw near to us as we draw near to Him with a true heart. These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me - Mathew 15:8. Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water - Hebrews 10:22.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, Let us draw near to You with a true heart. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

In Our Weaknesses

Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses - Romans 8:26.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit helps us and strengthens us in our weaknesses. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth - Acts 1: 8.

God’s grace

God’s grace is enough for us to overcome our weaknesses. And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong - 2 Corinthians 12:9-11.

God’s arm

God’s arm strengthens us. My arm shall strengthen him - Psalm 89:21. He arms us with His strength and gives us strength when we are weak. It is God who arms me with strength, and makes my way perfect - Psalm 18:32. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength - Isaiah 40:29.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, We thank You for helping us and strengthening us in our weaknesses. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Did Not Our Heart Burn Within Us While He talked with Us

And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” - Luke 24:32.

Jesus appeared to two disciples on the road to Emmaus after His resurrection. The two disciples were conversing with each other about the things that had taken place. They did not recognize that it is Jesus who joined and began traveling with them. Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was seven miles from Jerusalem. And they talked together of all these things which had happened. So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him - Luke 24:13-16.

Jesus listened to their conversation and they told that their hope was lost when Jesus was falsely accused, arrested, crucified and buried. Jesus explained to them about the Scriptures concerning Himself and asked them why they did not believe that Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter His glory. And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself - Luke 24:27. They told Jesus to stay with them and they recognized Him when He gave them bread. When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight - Luke 24:30,31

The disciples recollected how their hearts burn within them when He talked with them in the road and while He opened the scriptures to them. immediately, they ran from Emmaus to Jerusalem to tell others about the good news. So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread - Luke 24:33-35.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, Open our eyes and hearts to see the wondrous things in Your Word. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

All Things New

Behold, I make all things new - Revelation 21:5.

All things have become new in our life as the Spirit of the Lord who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in us and gave us life. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you - Romans 8:11.

If we are in Christ, we have to walk in the newness of life by putting off the old man and putting on the new man. That you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness - Ephesians 4:22-24. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new - 2 Corinthians 5:17.

Let us thank God for making us new and all things new in our life. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh - Ezekiel 36:26. Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert - Isaiah 43:18,19.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, We thank You for making us new and all things new in our life. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
