And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” - Luke 24:32.
Jesus appeared to two disciples on the road to Emmaus after His resurrection. The two disciples were conversing with each other about the things that had taken place. They did not recognize that it is Jesus who joined and began traveling with them. Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was seven miles from Jerusalem. And they talked together of all these things which had happened. So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him - Luke 24:13-16.
Jesus listened to their conversation and they told that their hope was lost when Jesus was falsely accused, arrested, crucified and buried. Jesus explained to them about the Scriptures concerning Himself and asked them why they did not believe that Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter His glory. And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself - Luke 24:27. They told Jesus to stay with them and they recognized Him when He gave them bread. When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight - Luke 24:30,31
The disciples recollected how their hearts burn within them when He talked with them in the road and while He opened the scriptures to them. immediately, they ran from Emmaus to Jerusalem to tell others about the good news. So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread - Luke 24:33-35.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Open our eyes and hearts to see the wondrous things in Your Word. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
