The Last Supper

“Take, eat; this is My body.” And He said to them, “This is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many - Mark 14:22,24.

The Last Supper is the last meal that Jesus ate with His disciples before His betrayal and arrest. And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you" - Luke 22:19,20. The bread represents the body of Christ that was broken for us and the cup represents the blood shed by Jesus for us.
The Last Supper brought the Old Testament observance of the Passover feast to its fulfillment. The Passover commemorate the time when God spared Israelite people from the plague of physical death and brought them out of slavery in Egypt (Exodus 11:1 - 13:16). The Last Supper is a way to remember the sacrifice of God that saves us from spiritual death and delivers us from spiritual bondage. Christ is our Passover sacrificed for us. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us - 1 Corinthians 5:7.
This supper was instituted by Christ Himself and He set the example for its observance. He told the disciples to do this in remembrance of Him. The Lord’s Supper is a time for remembering, and offering thanks for God’s great Sacrifice for us. For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep - 1 Corinthians 11:29-30.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, We thank You for giving Yourself for us. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
