When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” - John 19:26,27.
Jesus told the third word on the cross when He saw His mother and the disciple whom he loved standing near the cross. Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene - John 19:25.
Mary was very painful to watch her son suffering on the cross. Simeon's prophecy given at Jesus' dedication came to pass. “Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed - Luke 2:34, 35.
Jesus fulfilled his responsibility by committing his mother Mary to the care of the disciple he most loved. And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home - John 19:27. But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever - 1 Timothy 5:8. Honor your father and mother - Ephesians 6:2.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Help us to honor and care our parents. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise” - Luke 23:43.
This is the second Word of God spoken by Jesus on the cross. Jesus was crucified on the cross between two thieves. And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left - Luke 23:33. Because He poured out His soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors - Isaiah 53:12.
Both thieves insulted Jesus at first, but later the thief on the left repented as he identified Jesus as Savior. In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him - Matthew 27:44. One of the thieves blasphemed Jesus whereas the other thief was saved on the cross. Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.” But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?. And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong - Luke 23:40,41.
The thief who repented at the last moments of his life asked Jesus to remember him when he comes into His kingdom. The thief said to Jesus, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom” - Luke 23:42. Jesus promised the thief that surely he will be in paradise with Him today. And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise” - Luke 23:43. Let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help in time of need - Hebrews 4:16. For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” - Romans 10:13.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, We thank You for Your gift of salvation for us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do” - Luke 23:34.
The first word that Jesus spoke from the cross is the word of forgiveness. Jesus prayed for His enemies like how He had taught in the Sermon on the mount. But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you - Matthew 5:44. By making the intercession for transgressors on the cross, He fulfilled the Old Testament prophecy: “He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors” (Isaiah 53:12).
God will forgive us only when we forgive others. Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us - Matthew 6:12. For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you - Matthew 6:14. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins - Matthew 5:15. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses - Mark 11:26.
Let us forgive others just as Christ forgave us. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you - Ephesians 4:31-32. Bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do - Colossians 3:13.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Help us to forgive others just as You forgave us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil - 1 Timothy 6:10.
Judas who was one of the twelve disciples of Jesus had the love for money. But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray Him, said, “Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it - John 12:4-6
