He Did Not Open His Mouth

He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth -  Isaiah 53:7.

Jesus did not open his mouth when he was mocked and beaten. Now the men who held Jesus mocked Him and beat Him. And having blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?” And many other things they blasphemously spoke against Him - Luke 22:63-65. And they stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him. When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head. And when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him away to be crucified - Mathew 27:27-31.

He gave His back to the smiters and did not hide his face from spitting. I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting - Isaiah 50:6. The plowers plowed on my back; They made their furrows long - Psalm 129:3. I am poured out like water, And all my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It is melted within me. My strength is dried up like a potsherd, And my tongue cleaves to my jaws; And You lay me in the dust of death. For dogs have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encompassed me; They pierced my hands and my feet - Psalm 22:14-16.

Jesus endured all the sufferings and He made intercession for them instead of talking back. He bore the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors - Isaiah 53:12. For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God - 1 Peter 3:18. Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do" - Luke 23:34. When He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously - 1 Peter 2:23.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, We thank You for enduring all the sufferings patiently to bring us to God. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
