Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you - Luke 6:27,28.
God wants us to love our enemies. If you
love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax
collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you
doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as
your heavenly Father is perfect - Matthew 5:46 - 48. To be perfect like our
heavenly father who is perfect, we need to love our enemies. Repay no one evil
for evil - Romans 12:17. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with
good - Romans 12:21.
God loved us so much that He sent
His one and only son for us. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his
one and only Son into the world that we might live through him - 1 John 4:9. While
we were enemies to God by being sinners, He died for us and showed His love. But God demonstrates His own love toward us,
in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us - Romans 5:8. For if
when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son,
much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life - Romans 5:10.
Let us love our enemies like how God loved us. Therefore be imitators of God as
dear children - Ephesians 5:1.
God will reward us when we love our enemies
and do good to them. If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is
thirsty, give him water to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on
his head, and the Lord will reward you - Proverbs 25:21,22. Our rewards will be
great and we will be the children of the Most High God as we love our enemies. But
love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get
anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the
Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked - Luke 6:35.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Help us to love our
enemies like how You loved us. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
