Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves - Mathew 7:15.
God wants us not to be deceived
by false prophets who are wolves in sheep’s clothing. For false christs and
false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if
possible, even the elect - Matthew 24:24. They covet and seek their own glory. By
covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words - 2 Peter 2:3. He who
speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One
who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him - John 7:14.
It is our responsibility to identify false
prophets and teachers. We can recognize them by their fruit of the spirit. You will know them
by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles? Even
so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good
tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that
does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by
their fruits you will know them - Matthew 7:16-20.
God gives us His Spirit to guide us in discernment. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth - John 16:13. Let us not believe every spirit but instead be led by God. Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world - 1 John 4:1. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart - 1 Corinthians 4:5.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Help us to be
aware of false prophets and teachers. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
