Declare a holy fast; call a sacred
assembly. Summon the elders and all who live in the land to the house of the
Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord - Joel 1:14.
Fasting is the time to return to the Lord. Now,
therefore,” says the Lord, “Turn to Me with all your heart, With fasting, with
weeping, and with mourning.” So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return
to the Lord your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of
great kindness; And He relents from doing harm - Joel 2:12,13.
Fasting is worshiping and praying to God. While
they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for
me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them”. Then, having
fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away - Acts 13:2,3.
Fasting is having fellowship with God to seek God’s guidance. Moses
fasted and received the Ten commandments from God. Moses fasted for forty days
and forty nights. So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he
neither ate bread nor drank water. And He wrote on the tablets the words of the
covenant, the Ten Commandments - Exodus 34:28.
