Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil - Mathew 4:1.
First Temptation
The devil tempted Jesus to make
the stones become bread. But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall
not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God’”
- Mathew 4:3,4. So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with
manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you
know that man shall not live by bread alone; but lives by every word that proceeds
from the mouth of the Lord - Deuteronomy 8:3.
Second Temptation
Then
the devil took Jesus to Jerusalem to the highest point of the temple and told
Him to throw Himself down. Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set
Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God,
throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over
you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot
against a stone.’ ” Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not
tempt the Lord your God’ - Mathew 4:5-7. You shall not tempt the Lord your God
as you tempted Him in Massah - Deuteronomy 6:16.
Third Temptation
Finally, the devil tempted Jesus with
power. Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed
Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All
these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus
said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the
Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve’” - Mathew 4:8-11. You shall fear
the Lord your God and serve Him - Deuteronomy 6:13.
Jesus overcame all temptations of devil by God’s Word. Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels
came and ministered to Him - Mathew 4:11. Therefore submit to God. Resist the
devil and he will flee from you - James 4:7.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Help us to
overcome all temptations of devil like You by Your Word. In Jesus’ name we pray.
Amen.
