The Love of Money Is The Root of All Kinds of Evil

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows - 1 Timothy 6:10.

Judas being a disciple of Jesus is s lover of money as he started stealing money from the money box. But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray Him, said, “Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it - John 12:4-6.

The love of money led to many other sins in the life of Judas. He betrayed Jesus for just thirty pieces of silver. Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, 'What will you give me if I betray him to you?' They paid him thirty pieces of silver. And from that moment he began to look for an opportunity to betray him - Matthew 26: 14-16.

We cannot serve both God and money. No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon - Mathew 6:24. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also - Matthew 7:21. Set your mind on things above and not on things on earth - Colossians 3:2.

PRAYER: Help us to set our mind on things above and not be lovers of money. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
