Ash Wednesday

Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting - Psalm 139:23,24.

The first day of lent is commonly called as Ash Wednesday. Lent season is the special season of 40 days before Easter. The word lent comes from the “lengthening” of daylight hours as we progress from the darkness of winter to the new light of spring. Lent is a time to evaluate ourselves in light of God’s Word and to walk closer with God in prayer and fasting.
The 40 days of Lent represent the forty days and nights that Jesus fasted before He began His ministry on earth. Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. For forty days and forty nights He fasted and became very hungry - Matthew 4:1, 2. After fasting, Jesus overcame the temptations of Satan successfully and did His ministries mightily.
Let us return to the Lord with a pure heart in prayer and fasting. Now, therefore,” says the Lord, “Turn to Me with all your heart, With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning. So, rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the Lord your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness - Joel 2:12, 13. Be reconciled to God - 2 Corinthians 5:20.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, We thank You for the gift of this lent season. Help us to walk with You on our journey throughout the season of lent. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
