Now Jabez was more honorable than his
brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in
pain.” - I Chronicles 4:9.
The Bible says that Jabez was
more honorable to God. Jabez was given his name because of the pain his mother
went through at birth. And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that
You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be
with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So,
God granted him what he requested -1 Chronicles 4:10.
First Jabez called on the God to bless him. Next, he asked God to enlarge his territory. He asked for God’s
hand to be with Him. He also asked God to protect Him. The Lord granted him
what he requested by blessing him, enlarging him, guiding him and protecting
him. The Lord longs to fulfill the longings of our heart. Prayer is a privilege
graciously given to us by God. God says, “You will seek me and find me, when
you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I
will bring you back from your captivity - Jeremiah 29:13,14
James reminds us, “You do not have, because
you do not ask” (James 4:2). The Lord has promised us, ‘Ask, and it will be
given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For
everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it
will be opened’ - Matthew 7:7-8. Like Jabez, let us also claim God’s blessings
in our life by asking God in prayer.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, You are the Lord who blesses us. Bless us, Enlarge
us, Be with us and Protect us. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
