And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” - Luke 24:32.
On the day that Jesus was risen, two
disciples who were travelling from Jerusalem to Emmaus were talking with each
other about all the things that had happened to Jesus. On the road to Emmaus, Jesus joined with them
and walked with them but they did not recognize Him. So it was, while they
conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. But
their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him - Luke 24:15,16. The
two disciples told Him that their hope was lost when Jesus was falsely accused,
arrested, crucified and buried. Jesus explained to them the Scriptures
concerning Jesus as their Messiah. And beginning with Moses and all the
Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning
himself - Luke 24:27.
Jesus went to stay with them and they
sat at the table to have a meal. When Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it
and gave it to them, their eyes were opened. They recognized Him and Jesus disappeared from their midst. Now it came to pass, as He
sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave
it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from
their sight - Luke 24:30,31. They remembered how their hearts burned within
them when Jesus talked with them on the road and when He opened the scriptures
to them.
There was a glorious transformation of
two disciples and they became powerful witnesses for Jesus after He showed
Himself to them. They ran from Emmaus to Jerusalem to tell others about the
good news. So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found
the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, saying, “The Lord is
risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” And they told about the things that
had happened on the road, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread
- Luke 24:33-35.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Walk and journey with us. Open our eyes and
hearts to see Your glory. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
