He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep - John 21:17.
Peter who denied Jesus three times was
called by Jesus three times to feed His Sheep. Jesus assured Peter that he has
been restored to feed and take care of God's flock. Jesus is our good Shepherd
and we are His sheep. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life
for the sheep - John 10:11. It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We
are His people and the sheep of His pasture - Psalm 100:3.
God feeds us, guides us and tenderly leads us like a Shepherd who takes care of His sheep. I will feed them
in good pasture, and their fold shall be on the high mountains of Israel. There
they shall lie down in a good fold and feed in rich pasture on the mountains of
Israel. I will feed My flock, and I will make them lie down,” says the Lord God
- Ezekiel 34: 14,15. He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the
lambs with His arm, And carry them in His bosom, And gently lead those who are
with young - Isaiah 40:11.
Later
when Peter preached, about three thousand people were baptized and added to the
church (Acts 2:41). He healed a lame man (Acts 3). He preached boldly and he was
mightily used by God. People brought sick to the streets that at least the
shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow them (Acts 5:14-16). And I also say
to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the
gates of Hades shall not prevail against it - Matthew 16:18. Let us also love
God by feeding His sheep.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Help us to feed Your sheep. In Jesus’ name
we pray. Amen.
