Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. For forty days and forty nights He fasted and became very hungry - Matthew 4:1, 2.
The first day of the lent is the Ash Wednesday and the season of Lent is a great time for repentance, prayer, fasting, meditating God's Word and giving.
Repentance
Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord - Acts 3:19. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me - Psalm 51:10. Return to Me, and I will return to you - Malachi 3:7. Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties - Psalm 139:23. But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another - Galatians 6:3, 4.
Prayer
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful - Colossians 4:2. Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests - Ephesians 6:18. Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know - Jeremiah 33:3. Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me - Psalm 50:15. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you - Jeremiah 29:12. The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth - Psalm 145:18.
Fasting
Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes - Daniel 9:3. But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly - Mathew 6:17, 18. I humbled myself with fasting - Psalm 35:13.
Meditating God's Word
I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways - Psalm 119:15. Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper - Psalm 1:1-3. Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day - Psalms 119:97. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success - Joshua 1:8
Giving
You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land - Deuteronomy 15:11. It is more blessed to give than to receive - Acts 20:35. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver - 2 Corinthians 9:6, 7. Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you - Luke 6:38.
PRAYER:Dear Lord, Let us examine ourselves and repent, pray, fast, meditate your word and be blessed by giving others. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
