Helping The Poor

"Jesus answered, If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.'" Matthew 19:21.

There are many people in the world who are in need. When we help the poor, we lend to the Lord. He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and He will reward him for what he has done - Proverbs 19:17. If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered - Proverbs 21:13. He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, But he who honors Him has mercy on the needy - Proverbs 14:31. He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses - Proverbs 28:2.
Tabitha was a disciple who helped the poor. She devoted her life in doing good deeds. In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which, when translated, is Dorcas), who was always doing good and helping the poor - Acts 9:36. Suddenly, she became ill and died. But God raised her from dead.  But Peter put them all out, and knelt down and prayed. And turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up - Acts 9:40. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in - Matthew 25:35.
God will deliver us in the time of trouble when we help the poor. Blessed is he who considers the poor; The Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. The Lord will preserve him and keep him alive, And he will be blessed on the earth; You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies. The Lord will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed - Psalm 41:1-3. Let us give generously to the poor. A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor - Proverbs 22:9.

PRAYER:  Dear Lord, Help us to remember the poor people who are in need. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
