The end of all things is at hand; therefore
be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers - 1 Peter 4:7.
Self-control is a fruit of the
spirit (Galatians 5:22,23). Self-control is needed in our words, thoughts and
actions. We always have a battle in our minds to control our thoughts. We must bring
every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. Whoever has no rule
over his own spirit Is like a city broken down, without walls - Proverbs 25:28.
Anyone who is patient has great understanding. But anyone who gets angry
quickly shows how foolish they are - Proverbs 14:29.
When we master our own spirit, we
are stronger than one who takes a city. He who is slow to anger is better than
the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city - Proverbs 16:32.
The grace of God helps us to control ourselves. His grace teaches us to say no
to godless ways and sinful desires. We must control ourselves. We must do what
is right. We must lead godly lives in today’s world – Titus 2:12.
We can never lead a peaceful life without self-control.
The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak - Mathew 26:41. The Holy
spirit helps us in our weaknesses. Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses - Romans 8:26.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me - Philippians 4:13. Let us develop self-control in every area of our life through the Lord who strengthens us.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Help us to produce
the fruit of self-control in our life. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
