Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening - 1 Samuel 3:9.
God spoke with Samuel when the word of the
Lord was rare in those days. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days, there was no widespread revelation - 1 Samuel 3:1. It took
three times for Samuel to realize that God was speaking to him. Then he was
ready to hear the word of the Lord. Now
the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your
servant hears” - 1 Samuel 3:10. Then God spoke with Samuel about His judgement
plan for Eli’s family.
God desires to speak to us and we need to listen
to it. He is our Shepherd and we are the sheep to hear His voice and walk
according to it. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me -
John 10:27. The Holy Spirit is our Helper who teaches us all things. But the Helper,
the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all
things - John 14:26. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should
go; I will guide you with My eye - Psalm 32:8.
We can hear the voice of the Lord when we spend time in His Word and prayer. The more time we spend with God and His Word, the easier it will be to recognize His voice. When we are eager to listen His voice, He will speak with us and reveal His plan for us. God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world - Hebrews 1:1,2. Let us hear the voice of God and walk according to it.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Help us to hear
Your voice and obey to it. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
