They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” - Luke 24:32.
Jesus appeared to two disciples
on the road to Emmaus after His resurrection. The two disciples were conversing
with each other about the things that had taken place. They did not recognize
that it is Jesus who joined and began traveling with them. And behold, two of
them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was about seven
miles from Jerusalem. And they were conversing with each other about all these
things which had taken place. And it came about that while they were conversing
and discussing, Jesus himself approached, and began traveling with them. But
their eyes were prevented from recognizing him (Luke 24:13-16).
The two disciples poured out their hearts to
Him about how they hoped that Jesus would redeem Israel. Jesus explained to them about the scriptures concerning Himself. He said to them,
"How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the
prophets have spoken! Did not the Christ
have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?" And beginning with
Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the
Scriptures concerning himself - Luke 24:25-27.
Jesus stayed with them and they
recognized Him when He gave bread to them. When he was at the table with them,
he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their
eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight -
Luke 24:30,31. Like the two disciples, let us cast all our anxieties to the Lord
who listens to us. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you - 1
Peter 5:7. May God open our eyes to see the wonderful things in His Word. Open
my eyes that I may see Wondrous things in your law - Psalm 119:18.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Walk with us. Open
our eyes and hearts to see the wondrous things in Your Word. In Jesus’ name we
pray. Amen.
