She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me"- Genesis 16:13.
God found Hagar in the wilderness and promised that her descendants will be multiplied exceedingly. Now the Angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, by the spring on the way to Shur - Genesis 16:7. Then the Angel of the Lord said to her, “I will multiply your descendants exceedingly, so that they shall not be counted for multitude” - Genesis 16:10.
God saw Hagar in the wilderness and heard her affliction And the Angel of the Lord said to her: Behold, you are with child, And you shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, Because the Lord has heard your affliction - Genesis 16:11. Hagar called the name of the Lord as El-Roi, the God who sees. Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, “Have I also here seen Him who sees me?” - Genesis 16:13. She was greatly encouraged by the promise given by God in the wilderness. She returned as a slave to Abram and Sarai and gave birth to Ishmael. So Hagar gave Abram a son, and Abram named him Ishmael - Genesis 16:15.
Let us thank God who will see us and multiply us like how He saw Hagar in the wilderness and multiplied her. The Lord looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men - Psalm 33:13. The eyes of the Lord are in every place, Keeping watch on the evil and the good - Proverbs 15:3. For His eyes are on the ways of man, And He sees all his steps- Job 34:21. For I will look on you favorably and make you fruitful, multiply you and confirm My covenant with you - Leviticus 26:9. You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book - Psalm 56:8.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, We thank You and praise You for You are the God who sees us and multiplies us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
