The Strong Faith of Caleb And Joshua

Stand firm and be strong in your faith - 1 Peter 5:9.

Caleb and Joshua were the only two of the twelve spies who believed that God would deliver the land of giants into their hands. Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” - Numbers 13:30. They were also the only two who entered the Promised Land. Because they have not followed me wholeheartedly, not one of those who were twenty years old or more when they came up out of Egypt will see the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - not one except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun, for they followed the Lord wholeheartedly.’ - Numbers 32:11,12.

Caleb received Hebron as his inheritance as he followed God wholeheartedly. Then Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave him Hebron as his inheritance. So Hebron has belonged to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite ever since, because he followed the Lord, the God of Israel, wholeheartedly - Joshua 14:13,14. Jesus descended from the tribe of Judah, which is also the tribe of Caleb. From the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh - Numbers 13:6.

Joshua was the one chosen by God to succeed Moses in leading the children of Israel into the Promised Land. Then He inaugurated Joshua the son of Nun, and said, “Be strong and of good courage; for you shall bring the children of Israel into the land of which I swore to them, and I will be with you.” - Deuteronomy 31:23.

The good report of Caleb and Joshua about the land they explored and their willingness to  go up and take possession of the land demonstrated their strong faith. If you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you - Matthew 17:20. Truly I tell you that if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and has no doubt in his heart but believes that it will happen, it will be done for him.” - Mark 11:23.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, Let us stand firm and be strong in our faith. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
