Things Which Are Seen Are Temporary

For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal - 2 Corinthians 4:18.

No confidence in flesh

Paul was a Hebrew born in Tarsus in the tribe of Benjamin. He had studied in Jerusalem under one of the finest teachers, Gamaliel. For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh, though I also might have confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I more so: circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee; concerning zeal, persecuting the church; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, blameless - Philippians 3:3-6.

Accomplishments as loss

Paul considered the things he used to value the most as loss for the sake of Christ. But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ  - Philippians 3:7,8. He evaluated everything in the world as garbage to gain the true blessing that Lord Jesus Christ could give him.

Things which are unseen are eternal

The things which we see on this earth are temporary and so let us set our mind on things above and not on earth. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth - Colossians 3:2. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ - Philippians 3:20. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? - Mark 8:36. Heaven and earth will pass away - Luke 21:33. The just shall live by faith - Romans 1:17.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, Help us to set our mind on things above and not on the earth as the things which we see in the world are temporary. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
