The Love of Money

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows - 1 Timothy 6:10.

Judas being the disciple of Jesus is a lover of money as he used to take what was put in the money box. But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray Him, said, “Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it - John 12:4-6.

The love of money which is the root of all kinds of evil led to many other sins in the life of Judas. He betrayed Jesus for just thirty pieces of silver. Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, 'What will you give me if I betray him to you?' They paid him thirty pieces of silver. And from that moment he began to look for an opportunity to betray him - Matthew 26: 14-16.

Let us keep our life free from the love of money which is the root of all kinds of evil. Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for He has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you' - Hebrews 13:5. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also - Matthew 7:21. Set your mind on things above and not on things on earth - Colossians 3:2. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you - Matthew 6:33.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, Let us keep our life free from the love of money. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
