For he shall be delivered unto the
Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on: And
they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise
again - Luke 18:32.33.
Jesus’
greatest agony did not start only on the cross. It began at Gethsemane itself where
God laid on His Son the sins of the world. And being in agony, He prayed more
earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the
ground - Luke 22:44. Isaiah 50:6 says “I gave my back to the smiters, and my
cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and
spitting “.
Jesus was mocked, beaten and
crucified. And they stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him. When they had twisted
a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And
they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the
Jews!” Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head. And
when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on
Him, and led Him away to be crucified - Mathew 27:27-31. Pontius Pilate, the
Roman governor, scourged Him. So then
Pilate took Jesus and scourged Him - Luke 19:1.
Jesus did not even open His mouth when He was oppressed
and afflicted. He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His
mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its
shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth - Isaiah 53:7. Therefore, as the
elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility,
meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another,
if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you
also must do -Colossians 3:12,13.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Help us to be
patient and bear with one another. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
