The Fall of Judas

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows - 1 Timothy 6:10.

Judas, one of the twelve disciples of Jesus betrayed Jesus. He had the love of money. But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.” He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it- John 12:4-6.
Satan gained foothold on Judas as he had the greediness for money. Scripture tells us that "Satan entered Judas" (Luke 22:3) and the devil "prompted Judas to betray Jesus" (John 13:2).  Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, 'What will you give me if I betray him to you?' They paid him thirty pieces of silver. And from that moment he began to look for an opportunity to betray him - Matthew 26: 14-16.
Judas betrayed Jesus for just thirty pieces of silver. The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. We cannot serve both God and money. No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon - Mathew 6:24. Let us not love anything more than Jesus in our life. Do not give the devil a foothold - Ephesians 4:27.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, Help us to stay away from the love of money. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
