Like a city whose walls are broken
through is a person who lacks self-control - Proverbs 25:28.
Self-control leads to perseverance. To
knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness
- 2 Peter 1:6. He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who
rules his spirit than he who takes a city - Proverbs 16:32. Jesus exercised
self- control and learned obedience by His sufferings. Though He was a Son, yet
He learned obedience by the things which He suffered – Hebrews 5:8.
We must guard our
hearts by controlling what we allow into our hearts. Above all else, guard your
heart, for everything you do flows from it - Proverbs 4:23. We must control our
thoughts. Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself
against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the
obedience of Christ - 2 Corinthians 10:5. Test all things; hold fast what is
good. Abstain from every form of evil - 1 Thessalonians 5:21.
We should discipline our body as well as it is the temple of the Holy spirit. Or do you not know that your body is the
temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are
not your own? – 1 Corinthians 6:19. But I discipline my body and bring it into
subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become
disqualified - 1 Corinthians 9:27. When we exercise self-control, we can pursue
a holy life that is glorifying to the Lord.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Help us to exercise
self-control in our life. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
