If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness -1 John 1:9.
Both Judas and Peter were the disciples of
Jesus. Judas betrayed Jesus for just thirty pieces of silver whereas Peter denied
Him three times. And supper being ended, the devil having already put it into
the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him - John 13:2. Then he
began to curse and swear, saying, “I do not know the Man!” - Matthew 28:74.
Judas regretted but did not repent. Then
Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and
brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, saying,
“I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” And they said, “What is that to
us? You see to it!” Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and
departed, and went and hanged himself - Matthew 27:3-5.
Peter turned to Jesus and repented. And Peter remembered the word of Jesus who had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” So he went out and wept bitterly - Matthew 26:75. Peter received the grace of God whereas Judas failed to trust that he could be forgiven by God. For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death - 2 Corinthians 7:10. Judas killed himself whereas Peter became a leader in the early church and he was mightily used by God in ministry.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, We thank You for being faithful and just to forgive all our sins and cleansing us from all unrighteousness when we confess our sins. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
