Fasting Chosen By God

Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh? - Isaiah 58:6,7.

To loose the bonds of wickedness

Getting freedom from addictions is one of the main purposes of fasting. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free - John 8:32.

To undo the heavy burdens

Another purpose of fasting is to get free from heavy burdens. Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest - Matthew 11:28.

To let the oppressed go free

God wants us to fast for the revival and to win souls. Let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins - James 5:20.

To break every yoke

We need to fast to conquer mental and emotional problems. It shall come to pass in that day that his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, And his yoke from your neck, And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil - Isaiah 10:27.

To share bread with the hungry

The purpose of our fasting should be to feed the poor and help the needy people. You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land - Deuteronomy 15:11. Blessed is the one who considers the poor! In the day of trouble, the Lord delivers him - Psalm 41:1.

When we fast like this, God will bring light and healing in our life. Also, our righteousness will go before us and the glory of the Lord will protect us. Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard - Isaiah 58:8.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, Help us to fast in the way You have chosen. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
