Examine Yourself

For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another - Galatians 6:3,4.

Self-examining ourselves and returning to God is very important for our spiritual growth. Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall - 1 Corinthians 10:12. Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? - 2 Corinthians 13:5. We need to examine ourselves when we partake in the Lord’s Supper. Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup - 1 Corinthians 11:27,28.

The word of God which is a mirror examines us, reveals our sins and cleanses us. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like - James 1:23, 24. Let us take the Word of God and examine ourselves in the light of it. Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil - 1 Thessalonians 5:21,22. Let a man examine himself - 1 Corinthians 11:28.

Let us examine our life in the perspective of God and become more like Him. Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting - Psalm 139:23,24.  Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is - 1 John 3:2.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, Help us to examine ourselves. May Your Word transform us and help us to walk in light. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
