Fasting And Praying

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land - 2 Chronicles 7:14.

Following the recovery of the city of Jerusalem and rebuilding of the walls, the Feast of the Tabernacles was observed in Israel and then the Israelites were engaged in a period of confession, acknowledging their sins before the Lord followed by Bible meditation, worship and prayer. The prayer in the ninth chapter of the book of Nehemiah is the longest  in the Bible.

Fasting

The Israelites gathered together and fasted. On the twenty-fourth day of the same month, the Israelites gathered together, fasting and wearing sackcloth and putting dust on their heads - Nehemiah 9:1.

Confession of sins

The Israelites confessed their sins and the sins of their ancestors. Those of Israelite descent had separated themselves from all foreigners. They stood in their places and confessed their sins and the sins of their ancestors - Nehemiah 9:2.

Bible meditation & worship

For a quarter of the day, the Israelites read from the Book of the Law and spent another quarter in confession and in worshiping the Lord. They stood where they were and read from the Book of the Law of the Lord their God for a quarter of the day, and spent another quarter in confession and in worshiping the Lord their God - Nehemiah 9:3.

Prayer

They prayed to the Lord God. They cried out with loud voices to the Lord their God - Nehemiah 9:4.

Let us spend time in fasting, confession, Bible meditation, worship and praying to our Lord God.

PRAYER:  Let us humble ourselves and seek Your face by spending time in fasting, confession, meditating Your Word, worshipping and praying. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
