But I will sacrifice to You with the
voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.
Jonah 2:9.
Jonah prayed to God from the belly of
the fish. He prayed for three days and nights. He acknowledges the sovereignty
of God in his situation. When we call upon the Lord in our distress, God will
hear us. In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried out to my God; He
heard my voice from His temple, and my cry came before Him, even to His ears - Psalm
18:6.
Jonah remembered
the Lord. When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the Lord – Jonah 2:7. He
confessed his sins and renewed his commitment to God. Jonah closed his prayer
with praises. With the voice of thanksgiving, He praised God with confidence.
He also vowed to serve the Lord. He put his trust on God alone. Salvation is of
the Lord – Jonah 2:9.
God is our deliverer. Then they cried
out to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress –
Psalm 107:6. Jonah cried out to God for help and He remembered the Lord. Even
though Jonah rebelled against God and attempted to run away from Him, God still
had mercy on him. The Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry
land - Jonah 2:10. Let us praise God who saves us.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, You are our deliverer.
Help us to call upon You with prayer of thanksgiving like Jonah. In Jesus name
we pray. Amen.
