After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!” - John 19:28.
The fifth word that Jesus spoke on the cross is “I thirst”. My strength is dried up like a potsherd, And My tongue clings to My jaws; You have brought Me to the dust of death - Psalm 22:15. They also gave me gall for my food, and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink - Psalm 69:21. The greatest thirst of Jesus is that all people have to be saved. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth - 1 Timothy 2:4. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost - Luke 19:10.
Let us have more thirst for God and for the lost souls to be saved. As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? - Psalm 42:1,2. I am weary with my crying; My throat is dry; My eyes fail while I wait for my God - Psalm 69:3. O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water - Psalm 63:1.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Let our thirst be more for You and for the lost souls to be saved. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
