The Garden of Gethsemane

Then they came to a place which was named Gethsemane; and He said to His disciples, “Sit here while I pray” - Mark 14:32.

Jesus went to the garden of Gethsemane the night before His crucifixion to pray. And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” - Luke 22:41. He submitted to the will of Father as He came down from heaven to do His will and not His will. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me - John 6:38.

Jesus prayed more earnestly in the garden of Gethsemane in agony and He was strengthened by an angel after prayer. And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground - Luke 22:44. Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him - Luke 22:43. Who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear - Hebrews 5:7.

Like Jesus, let us not be anxious about anything but submit ourselves to the will of God and pray earnestly. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God - Psalm 143:10. I delight to do Your will, O my God - Psalm 40:8. Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak - Mathew 26:41. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus - Philippians 4:6-7.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, Let us not be anxious about anything but bring all our requests to You in prayer and submit to Your will. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
