When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” - John 19:26,27.
Jesus spoke the third word on the cross when He saw His mother and the disciple whom He loved standing near her. Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home. - John 19:25-27.
Simeon's prophecy given to Mary at Jesus' dedication came to pass. “Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed - Luke 2:34, 35.
Jesus fulfilled His responsibility by committing His mother Mary to the care of the disciple He most loved. And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home - John 19:27. Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.” - Ephesians 6:1-3.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, Let us honor and care our parents. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
